Hunald, the former duke of Aquantine, breaks from the cloister where he has lived as a monk and stirs up a revolt! Charles elder brother, Carloman, does not help to aid this revolt! After the Aquantine rebellion is crushed Charles resolves to take back Nuestria from his brother!

Nuestria, the last of Corlomans cities is taken by Charles froces! Charles receives letter from "The Monk Cathwulph" enumerating the special blessing for which the king was duty bound to be grateful, "Third...God has preserved you from the wiles of your brother...Fifth, and not the least, that God has removed your brother from this earthly kingdom."

Charles marries the daughter of Desiderius, the king of the Lombards. The Pope Dissaproves for "solid temporal reasons," moreover Charles has been all but engaged to a Frankish girl named Himultrude for quite awhile now.

Three years after marrying the daughter of Desiderius, Charles spruns her and marries Hildegarde, a Swabian. Desiderius is furious at this insult! The dominions of the Holy See are the first to bear his wrath! Soon he vows to come for the Franks as well!

Charlemagne makes his first visit to Rome from Verona, where the militia hangs at his feet the great banner of Rome and hail him as the imperator. Charles prostates himself to the Threshold of the Apostles and spends seven days talking with the pope.

The Byzantine Emperor Constantin VI is dethroned, imprisoned and blinded by the Empress Mother, Irene. Caliph Harin Al Raschid starts threatening the Byzantines from the East. Charlemagne receives ambassadors from Haroun Al Raschid and they get along famously. Great Alliances are forged between the two. Charlemagne asks Raschid for an elephant, Raschid sends the only one he has.

Pope Leo III is waylaid and left unconcious, he escapes to St. Peters where Charlemagne shelters him and sends him back to Rome escorted by the missi. The insurgents are terrified of Charlemagne and unable to explain themselves, they surrender. They are sent to Charlemagne to deal with at his leisure.

Charlemange captures Rome! During the pontifical Mass celebrated by the pope the high king kneels in prayer before the high alter beneath which lie the bodies of St. Peter and St. Paul, the Pope approachers him and places upon his head the imperial crown and does him formal reverence after the ancient manner. Charlemange is saluted as Emperor and Augustus, the Pope annoints him. The Romans present thrice burst out with the acclamation "To Carolus Augustus crowned by God, mighty and pacific emperor, be life and victory!"

The last free city in Britian has been conquered. The Anglo Saxons now control all of England and Wales, the North is still occupied by the Picts but that could change. The Anglo Saxons are a formidable force across the water and we might have to deal with them soon. Calls for help come from the Britons and Celts! Will Charlemagne heed them?

Charlemagne declares war on Cynewulf! The Christian Celts of the hills hail Charlemagne as the next Ceaser as Charlemagne declares that britian shall have autonomous rule under the Franks as it did under the Romans! More and more Celt volunteers fill the ranks as the Anglo Saxon empire dies at the hands of Charlemagne!
